OPAA

Welcome to the OPAA or Academic Boosters' web site.  Our organization is an effort to recognize students for their academic success.  We are always looking for new members and fresh ideas. Please take a moment to look at our programs and feel free to come to our meetings.  We appreciate any donations that you as an individual or a business can give.  Thank you!

Our Programs

Currently we recognize students for their academic achievements in grades three through senior year. We have a number of ways of honoring students.

Stingel Intermediate

  • Students who achieve all “A’s and “B’s” for the first three grading periods are awarded an Academic Warrior “Dog Tag."  Students are recognized at a school assembly and National Honor Society members present the awards to the students.   Students in third grade receive a silver dog tag.  Students in fourth grade receive a blue dog tag, and students in fifth grade receive a gold dog tag.

  • Academic Awards  Students who achieve all “A’s” and “B’s” the first three grading periods are awarded a special gift.  Last year we presented these students with “Academic Warrior” rulers and 86 middle school students qualified for an “Academic Warrior” ruler in 2005.
  • End of the Year Awards  Students who maintained at least a 3.5 GPA received a combination mechanical pen/pencil engraved with  "Academic Warrior"

  • Blue Card Breakfast  Students who raise their grade point average .5 from the previous grading period receive a “Blue Card Breakfast."  This year Mr. Klenk will be cooking breakfast for those students that qualify!
  • Academic Awards Banquet  This banquet was created to honor students obtaining a 3.5 cumulative grade point average.  OPAA hosts the banquet, which is in the high school gymnasium, and catered by The Roadhouse with over 400 students, parents, and school staff in attendance.  Students are honored with a complementary dinner, an academic award, flowers, and a photograph.
  • Scholarship Program  OPAA awards an annual scholarship to an Ontario High School senior.  Guidelines and information on our scholarship program are available through the high school guidance office.  Last year OPAA awarded a scholarship for $500.00 to Ally Sommer and Will Bogantz.

Our Mission

OPAA or Academic Boosters is an organization formed by parents, teachers, and administrators with the primary goal of furthering the academic excellence of our schools and recognizing the achievement of the students of Ontario Schools.  The programs and activities that we sponsor are intended to encourage and recognize students for their accomplishments. We spend an average of $6,000 each year in recognizing our students in grades 3 - 12.

Gold Card Program

This program has been developed with the cooperation of area merchants who agree to give a discount or a percentage off a purchase at their businesses.  The Gold Cards are awarded to students who maintain a 3.0 GPA each grading period.  Last year OPAA presented over 2000 Gold Cards to our students.

Ice Cream Pass

Students who achieve a 3.5 GPA each grading period are awarded an “Ice Cream Pass."  The pass is good for any 50 cent item in the cafeteria.

“A” Team Sports Pass.

This program was developed in cooperation with our athletic department.  Those students earning all “A’s” each grading period are awarded a “Sports Pass."  The pass allows “free” entrance to all middle school and high school sporting events for the next nine-week grading period.

Academic Awards Display Case

With the cooperation of school administrators, our organization maintains a display in both the middle school and the high school.  Our cases feature the academic awards of our students.  We recognize students participating in Academic Challenge.  Photographs of students who achieve all “A’s” are featured.  We also recognize students who qualify for the honor roll and merit roll.
