Our
classroom teachers are working hard to provide interventions for our students
that are below grade level academically.
Additionally, the Title I teachers continue to provide small group
reading intervention to those students below grade level in reading and language
arts.
I would
ask that parents read with their children every night. Research indicates that parental
involvement is key to students’ success in learning to read. In fact, a recent international study of
reading achievement found that parental involvement in children’s reading was
the number-one predictor of reading achievement worldwide. Parents often ask why their child is
reading the same book over and over.
Repeated reading is a powerful tool and when used on a regular basis,
students’ word recognition, reading fluency, and comprehension improve
significantly.
