At the kindergarten level, we continue to work on our letters and sounds.  It is our goal that the kindergarten students will know all of their letters and sounds by the end of the year.  Reading levels at the first and second grades are being assessed through the DRA (Developmental Reading Assessment).

Teachers are currently identifying students that are not performing at grade level and those students that are at-risk.  I will be meeting with the teachers to discuss our intervention plans.  The classroom teachers will be talking to the parents of these students during parent-teacher conferences in February.

We have also been working with our students in the area of writing.  Children at the kindergarten level are at the beginning of the writing process, in which they are making connections between letters and sounds.  The kindergarten students are presently assessed on letter-sound connections, capitalization, punctuation and proper spacing.

First graders were assessed on writing two top quality sentences and the second graders were assessed on paragraph writing.

Thank you for your continued support at home.

A FEW REMINDERS…

  • Students that arrive after 8:50 a.m. should be accompanied by their parent to the office for a tardy slip.  Our front doors are locked after 9:00 a.m. and often students do not know to ring the doorbell to enter the locked doors.

  • When there is a change of transportation at the end of the day, parents are required to write a note indicating the change.  The note should be dated accordingly.  Also, please empty your child’s backpack of any outdated notes.
