Happening in our classroom:

Next week we will continue working on writing 2 good sentences. The students have made great progress this quarter. We continue to discuss what make a good sentence and ways to make the sentences more interesting. We will also continue working in reading groups. The focus is on fluency and comprehension. I appreciate all the support the students get at home.

In math we will be finishing chapter 11. The students are learning to count on to solve addition problems. This is just one of many strategies they have learned this year. I encourage the students to use math flashcards at home to help them improve their math fact skills.

On Wednesday, December 19^th we will be going to the high school to make cookies. This is always a great time for the first graders and the high school students.

Finally, on Friday, December 21^st we will be having our class gift exchange. Please have the gift to school by that day, wrapped and the child’s name that it is from on the present. If you don’t wish for your child to participate, that is fine. Have a relaxing weekend!
