Text Box: Safe Homes Membership Directory Each member will receive a directory containing a list of all safe homes members. This is an excellent way for parents to communicate with one another while keeping Ontario children safe. Who Should Participate? We encourage all Ontario community members to participate in this program. The young people in your community deserve your protection. Why Should We Participate? This program lays the foundation for guidelines and limits that are part of your home. Children will be used to the concept of supervised gatherings and party activities. Peer pressure is strong. As a parent in the Safe Homes program, you will provide an appropriate model of guidelines for youth gatherings. Parent members will not be standing alone in continuing your values of supervised and safe gatherings. Alcohol and drug consumption kills our nation’s teenagers every day. Providing supervised gatherings where alcohol and drugs are not allowed protects our youth. Text Box: The Safe Homes Pledge Safe homes has been endorsed by many groups, organizations, and parents. This program puts the responsibility back into the hands of the parents. The parents must educate, inform and set an example for their children. Taking this pledge reinforces their understanding of their parental responsibilities. Safe Homes Parents Agree to: We will develop and communicate a clear position about drugs and alcohol use. We will not allow the illegal use of drugs or alcohol in our home or on our property. We will not allow parties or gatherings in our homes when we are not present. We will support school and law enforcement policy regarding the use of drugs and alcohol, and encourage the use of appropriate discipline in dealing with the offenders. We will set an example that can be followed by our children. We will remember that appropriate and consistent discipline indicates concern and love. We will involve our teenagers in the planning of appropriate parties with non-alcoholic beverages served. This is a one year commitment and must be renewed annually.
