Stingel Intermediate’s Warrior Pride Drug Free & Proud

Dear Fourth Grade Students and Parents,

Once again, all fourth grade students are invited to participate in Warrior Pride. Warrior Pride is a voluntary drug awareness program offered at Stingel Intermediate School. The organization itself will be overseen by Veronica Cain, Director of the Ontario Substance Abuse Program. The goals of the program are:

1. To promote a high self-esteem in each individual.

2. To allow the opportunity for positive peer interactions.

3. To promote the awareness of the dangers of alcohol and other drugs.

4. To promote involvement within the community.

Activities include parties and “special events”, as well as fun and educational interactions with films and guest speakers. Warrior Pride meetings will take place monthly, during recess time. Dates for the 2009-2010 school year are as follows:

September 17, 2009

October 14/15, 2009

November 18/19, 2009

December 16/17, 2009

January 20/21, 2010

February 17/18, 2010

March 17/18, 2010

April 14/15, 2010

May 19/20, 2010

Students will be reminded of the meetings through their teachers by receiving an announcement. The September meeting will include any fourth grade students interested in Warrior Pride. The remaining dates will be divided by classroom in the event that a large number of students wish to sign up. Students will be able to view pictures of Warrior Pride on the Stingel website, under Substance Abuse Education. Access to all of the Ontario Substance Abuse Program activities can be found at: www.ontarioschools.org/SubstanceAbuse.html. The web page also has links to other web sites that have valuable information for parents of children of all ages.
