The OMS staff would like to thank the many parents who provided the truly delicious meal for the teachers and staff before yesterday's conferences. Your thoughtfulness and generosity was much appreciated.
Volunteers Needed
We're very proud of our booster clubs and the many benefits they
provide for our students. Ontario is fortunate, indeed, to have the
level of support from our booster clubs that we enjoy. However, in
order for these benefits to continue, the clubs need more volunteers.
If you are interested in volunteering as an academic, athletic, or band
booster, please call one of the numbers listed below. The quality of
our booster programs is in the hands of the volunteers who participate
in the clubs.

Students Confer with Parents

Sixth grade students recently had the opportunity to lead their own discussion with their parents during the annual parent / teacher conference night, Thursday, November 6. Students were able to showcase their work from the nine-week grading period to their parents.

Having the conferences in the library enabled several groups to meet at the same time in a quiet, pleasant surrounding.

Conferences will continue Thursday, November 13.

Celebrating Veterans' Day

The combined seventh and eighth grade choir chose an uplifting song to present to honored guests, parents, staff, and the student body at the annual Veterans' Day assembly.

VFW Patriots Pen finalists did a nice job presenting their essays to a very attentive audience.
The "Greening" of OMS
Student Council members traveled to Shelby
recently to investigate some expensive trash at the Milliron Recycling plant. While touring the facility, students were pleasantly surprised to meet owner, Grant Milliron himself. Mr. Milliron led the students throughout his facility and provided a good deal of information on current recycling methods. Student Council members are putting forth an effort to makeOntario an
even more earth-friendly place. Council participants hope to get the entire school involved in their recycling projects.

Some of the types of items that are collected and recycled at Milliron include the (above) plastic containers. Copper is very valuable, and as seen in the bottom photo, can be recycled from old wiring.

OMS PTO
The newly organized Middle School's PTO meets every second Wednesday of the month at 6
PM in the library. Their next meeting will be November 12, and they are looking for members. The organization is also having a Box Tops for Education contest. They will be holding one contest a month until January, with one prize presented at the end of November, December, and January. One prize will be presented to the top collector in each grade 6-8 and one for a Middle School Staff member. There are collection bins in front of the office. Parents are asked to have students (and staff members) place the box tops in a sandwich bag with the person's name and grade on the bag.
