District Report Card Information

This idea of additional instructional time is also being implemented at Ontario Middle School. Last year, OMS staff began developing advanced honors courses at each grade level in each subject area. The advanced classes are designed to challenge the students who are excelling in particular subjects. Since several of the staff were assigned to cover study halls throughout the day, a study hall monitor was hired. This allows the teachers to increase instructional times and improve our programs. Next year, we will see additional advanced course in grades six and seven.

To further address the need to provide more-challenging courses in the district, Ontario High School has added course that meet the rigor of the content standards. While high school students continue to score well on the State-level assessments, we need to do more. Advanced Placement, Dual Credit, and Honors classes will continue to grow. We are piloting a distance-learning class through the Ohio School for the deaf to gauge the interest in bringing courses that we would otherwise not be able to offer in our district.

Ontario is facing challenges that other districts have, are, or soon will be seeing. We are scheduling visits to districts to learn how their “best practices” have enabled them to earn an “A” rating. Ideas collected through these visits will be discussed and appropriate strategies implemented as part of our plan to improve.

Ontario’s goal is simple, to provide Excellence in Education. Please know that we will continue to concentrate on the processes that spur continuing advancement: evaluating what we have, determining what we can do to improve, and identifying what we need to make those improvement.
